Pittsburgh was recently home to the giant rubber duck, which sat in the Allegheny River for a good bit. Travelers came from all over the Pittsburgh area and throughout the country to check out the 40-foot rubber duckie. The rubber duck in Pittsburgh was one of several giant floating sculptures designed by Dutch artist, Florentijn Hofman.

In 2007, Hofman started his rubber duck world tour entitled “Spreading joy around the world”, staring in his hometown of Amsterdam, Netherlands. Since then, the giant duck has visited Japan, Hong Kong, China Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, France and other destinations, with Pittsburgh being it’s first and only U.S. city to date. Most recently, the giant yellow duck visited Taiwan. There, something went wrong as the rubber duckie exploded before the countdown to 2014.
