This month’s employee spotlight features Laura Volle, the latest addition to our project management lineup. She’s a technical guru with a Masters in Civil Engineering, fluent in structural engineering, and is Supermom to two youngsters.
1st project you’re tackling at Nello?
I have been working with Jerry Falso, one of Nello’s senior managers on both the Edinboro University Ross Hall project and California University Natali Student Center. The projects are in different stages of completion and I am gaining some valuable experience on how to deal with projects that are wrapping up and projects that are in full swing.
What’s the last book you read?
The last book I finished was Insurgent, by Veronica Roth. It’s the second book of yet another ‘young adult’ trilogy being turned into a movie. I’m eagerly waiting for the final book to be released. In the meantime, I’m reading Ender’s Game by Orson Scott.
What’s your favorite thing to do in the fall?
Festivals! As many as we can get to! Pumpkin festivals, apple festivals, whatever comes up next, we try to go. And since we have a huge tree in the backyard with more leaves on it than any normal tree should ever be allowed to have, the kids get to jump in the leaves….a lot! Fall is by far, my favorite time of year.
If you could live anywhere for one year, all expenses paid, where would you live?
Somewhere tropical! We went to Aruba a few years ago and the crystal clear water was unbelievable. I could definitely handle living somewhere like that for a year!
Favorite drink at Starbucks?
Although Starbucks coffee isn’t my favorite, it’s never stopped me from going. I’m not picky…anything caramel and grande will do!
Best vacation you’ve ever been on?
This past April we took the kids to Disney for the first time. I have to admit, there really is something magical about the place. The kids never stopped smiling (except for the occasional excitement induced meltdown), and we all came away with many memories that will hopefully last a lifetime, or at least until our next visit.
Fun facts: anything interesting people should know about you?
The fun in my life comes from my two wonderful kids, Kaleb and Paige. We enjoy going camping during the summer and having fires at night and watching movies outside. Kaleb plays hockey and it’s always a joy to watch! Paige loves gymnastics and on any given day, I think she’s upside down more than she’s right-side-up!
